Speaker's Corner

Hyde Park,
where anyone can speak their mind.
It’s Sunday so there’s religion—
urgent voices and eyes that would drain you.

At the far edge is a Marxist with a different stick.
His long hair whips across his face
as he extols the virtue of public transportation
Across the green, the park moves with soccer.

I liked the idea of a Speaker's Corner for my Friday Flash entry.
If you or anyone you know has written a Friday Flash 55, go tell the G-Man where you can find more brevity and wit and get feedback from coast to coast.

And then have a great weekend.

Public park preachers and a Marxist with a stick. I think I'll skip Sundays in Hyde Park. Thanks for the heads up. ;)

Sometimes you have to watch out who you meet at the park! Have a great weekend and don't get to close to that Marxist!

You put me right there, in that park. Loved the touch about the Marxist.

Thank you. Yes, there are and they aren't as scary as the Michigan Militia! Missed you last week. Hope you have a great weekend too.

Thanks for stopping in. Actually it wasn't that bad. It was waaaay interesting!

Thank you so much. I'm happy to meet you. Yes, please do come back.

Thanks! I surely appreciate your commentary. Happy Friday to you!

Thanks. Yes the religion peddlers were more draining than the Marxist. Do you know what I mean? Off to check out yours!

It must be the hermit in me. Sounds like way too much going on in the park on Sunday. I think I'll wait and go during the week when everyone else is at work.

I do love the contrast you have painted.

Thanks for visiting and commenting on mine Yvonne: Respect

Thank! Happy to see you and glad you liked it.

Thank you for commenting. Actually, the Marxist wasn't the one who scared me.

Thank you so much. Glad you were there with me!

Thank you, always.

Mama Zen,
Hi and welcome to my blog! Thank you. I haven't read yours yet so off I go.

Hi, and thanks. I liked yours this week too. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip and you're going to do Hyde Park, you might as well do it on Sunday. Have a great week.

Nice imagery here. Makes me think of the barkers at a carnival or fair.

Speaker's Corner - a cool idea in itself and a wonderful "55" topic! The way you described it, I could really imagine being there.

Love it! :) I live close to Hyde Park so I can really appreciate this one! My husband loved to argue with the radicals while I shrink into the background, pretending I have no idea who he is... hehe!

"...eyes that would drain you." I love that line. It's so powerful.

Back in the day, when I worked in software, I walked by a Speakers Corner in Central Park in the company of a Saudi Arabian customer. He was amazed at the concept, and commented that there would never be that sort of freedom of speech in Saudi Arabia.

I’m up here.

Hi! Yes, all that preaching coming at you from all directions. Keep walking, keep walking....

Yes, that is what it was like. Best not to make eye contact! Thanks for stopping.

Thank you very much!!

Yes, it was quite an amazing place. All those voices and ideas...and soccer in the background. I liked that.

Thanks. Appreciate the comment.

Thank you and I will.

Hi! I loved it there and I envy you your surroundings, steeped in culture and history. Thanks so much for commenting.

Thank you so much. No, a place like that wouldn't fly in the Middle East, or in most of the world.

Thanks so much for following!! I love new faces too. Wow! So happy to see you here.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
