Wage Theft At Sea (a friday flash 55)

Snake climbed the ratline and glassed the ocean. He wouldn't be free until his bond was paid, but asylum in Cuba awaited if he could escape the capitalists and their dangerous shortcuts. He cut the anchor rope and waited. The island’s bluff rose from out of the sea, and he silently slipped into the ocean.

The above flash fiction is 55 words for the G-Man.

TGIF and hello, Havana!

interesting...we are talking about the bay of pigs and cuba right now in history class..the lengths that people will go to in escaping things as well...

Dangerous shortcuts indeed! This really weaves back and forth in between visual possibilities!

Brian,
I'd love to be sitting in on your history class. Thanks!

Izzy,
Thanks! Glad you liked it.

...anyone who wants to escape to Cuba ... I say we should help them. Just crazy, in my opinion. Yes, I too would love to be a student in Brian's History class!

Your flash 55 sets the scene nicely, though.

I loved this...felt like I was sneaking a peek into a very dangerous and exciting life, Yvonne.

Oh I had a chill up my spine. What if he didn't make it?

He would have been welcome on my raft, but probably not safe there either. And I'm beginning to think you can't get away from the capitalists--alive, anyway. Enjoyed it, Yvonne.

Desperation can be the source of such heroism. Great write.

Power to the Proletariat!
(Or maybe he just enjoyed a fine cigar and a Donkey Show?)
Loved your Escapist 55
You always come up with the most interesting topics.
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End

Margaret,
There are things about it that are intriguing. It's such a popular place to visit for Canadians. Thanks.

Talon,
Thank you so much!

Anne,
Thanks! I wonder myself. I see a skinny little guy, but with the legs of a swimmer.

Hedgewitch,
Ha! No I don't believe you can. Thanks.

Anthony,
Righto. I hope to never be so desperate.

Alice,
I like different.

G-Man,
It's probably the fine Cuban cigar! Isn't it silly, how it's such a crime here to smoke one?

Well done, Yvonne :)

Very exciting story in such few words. I've been wanting to write some flash fiction and this just makes me want to more. Hopefully in May.

This had a special impact on me because yesterday two neighborhood boys rushed over to show me a garter snake in a box. Their plans were to keep it in their room, and I cautioned them to care for it wisely (to ask their mother, etc). All the evening I kept hoping it had been freed!

There is so much mystery here...your 55 intrigues me!

Yvonne Osborne said...

Mama,
Thank you!

Tony,
Thanks so much!

Wendy,
Hi! Maybe he does....

Jemi,
Thanks! I'm glad.

Heidi,
Do try. This is a great writing exercise.

Lydia,
Yikes! A garter snake should not be kept in a box, in anyone's bedroom. I wonder where it is now...
Thanks!

Mary,
Thank you so much.

I bought a Cuban cigar in Windsor---i think they send the stale ones to Canada. Odd imagery but living in Detroit we escaped capitalism by Snyder's fiat not the Italian one but the Orr one. I think the next year or two are going to be more Cuban in nature than American. Now we just need some good Cubano restaurants

Yvonne Osborne said...

Mark,
When we were in Ireland we found out that the Guinness there is much better. They send the dregs to us. I like that you're from Detroit. The old city has been in the news much of late. One of these days we'll be able to buy a fresh Cuban cigar. Those fat displaced cats in Miami need to shut up and get over it. mvho
