I
walked around the pond in search of life.
The
center is swirled in snowbanks
but the thaw has begun.
but the thaw has begun.
No floating fish-the feared winter kill-off,
only leaves and corn husks float
in the debris of spring.
only leaves and corn husks float
in the debris of spring.
Yet
under the dock, air bubbles surface
and
I imagined the turtle stirring
with
dreams of a dragonfly’s spin.
But
for now he sleeps. It’s only April.
The challenge here was to give our best and worst of April in 66 words.

I love the turtle dreaming of a dragonfly's spin. That is such a gorgeous image.
Love this! And love the fact that spring is actually on its way! I can even see over the snowbanks when I'm backing out of the driveway now! :)
I LOVE this! Especially the turtle dreaming of the dragonfly's spin.....wonderful!
MamaZen,
Thank you!! And thanks for doing this.
Jemi,
Thanks! Yes spring will never be more welcome.
Sherry,
Hi! And thank you so much!
No sign of life per se but ones imagination can conjure up some upon a hint, the sight of bubbles near the rocks. I love it.
It reminded me of the three large turtles I saw last week sunning on a limb over the little lake at the golf course here. I have pictures.
..
I like the thought of a turtle dreaming..lovely piece!
Last year I leaned over a pond mid summer and was surprised to see a snapping turtle beneath the water's surface. It did swim off, but such a thrill went through me. Yes, the image of him dreaming is lovely.
i love the turtle's dream..and the
vivid images..
Jim,
Thanks so much for commenting. I love turtles.
Susie,
Thanks! I saw one surface last spring and when he dived I saw his tail. First time I'd ever seen a turtle's tail!
Margaret,
Exactly. We see them seldom. Thanks!!
Sumana,

So enjoyed. This visit as spring begins is a nice escape..
Very good, Yvonne!
It's Autumn for us Down Under. Phew ... the summer was hot and sticky. I wished for snow!
Tony,
Thanks! Glad you like.
Wendy,
I know...hard to believe we're that far away. Thanks.
Lovely. You have a beautiful way of weaving thoughts and images.
Poor turtle.
Taryn,
Thanks!!
Charleen,
Hey....hello! Thank you. Poor turtle indeed....a fresh layer of snow overnight and freezing temps to chill the water and so he continues to hide in his shell in the mucky bottom.
