Friday Flash 55 - Father

In the fog, the strobe lights on the bus
alert the children.
In the fog, a figure leaves the forest
and waits at the edge of the clearing
to watch as the child who will never know him
climbs the steps with his Spiderman lunchbox.
In the fog, it’s as if he wasn’t even there.

A thank you to Galen, the kick-ass host at Mr. Knowitall who orchestrates the Friday Flash 55 event. If you have a story you can tell us in 55 words, tell him first. See you on the other side of 2011!

I wish I knew the story you thought of to come up with this. Excellent.

A wonderful story… I filled in the unnecessary details as I read. So sad… Thank you

Sounds like the beginning (or the end) of a sad movie. Well-described 55!

oh lord...this is rather ominous...and a bit scary...shivers...nice 55 though...

Isn't it weird, how you can say "Spiderman Lunchbox" and it is already a Stephen King novel to me...the formation, the tension, the metal cubical left behind a boy?

oooooo, I love the bittersweetness of this. I see it as a father who can only see his child from afar. Beautiful and otherwordly.
May your new year be fantastic, Yvonne.

A father creeping through the fog, watching a child who doesn't know him is a very scary story.

There are so many possibilities for this story. Galen is thinking spooky, and I am thinking sad, a father who will only watch his child from afar.

Happy New Year!

Hmm my imagination went many directions. I understand the fog and how it can hide so much

Sad to be the one who's unseen and forgotten. Eloquent.

Mine's up.
