Magpie Dreams

Wind of History by Jacek Yerka
My recurring dream of water
sloshing in the wheel wells
on a drive along the crumbling beach
forested wtih trees which would never be
to swim without a suit like a hedonist
in waves crashing over the breakwater

gave way to a fork in the road
and a house of many rooms
waiting to be refurbished,
like an antique in need of buffing,
a loving hand to awaken the patina of wood
harvested from the property
and you under the covers in a room with a dormer.

If dreams are to be minded,
I will die of drowning and you and I
will never lie under the covers in the bedroom
on the property of a dream.

The image comes to us from Magpie Tales.  Follow the link to join the Mag Creative Writing Group and read other poems and vignettes using the Wind Of History for inspiration.

The words fit the image so perfectly.. They do tell the rest of the story. Between the two, all questions that need answers are covered.

Beautifully written poem, Yvonne... I especially like the last stanza.

no we will live in a reality...with a little spit and polish and a lot of work...but it will be grand once more...smiles.

It's just the wrong house for the two of you...

Wow sloshing is fabulous! in the wheel wells! I have an old poem w/ a memory like that! thanks-
( yes I would love a fan of trees like the ones above! not sure I could avoid driving and walking; even riding under them)

I like the dream and hope of refurbishing and renewing...

do not mind those dreams-very evocative poem

Oh I have flood dreams...usually when I'm feeling stressed...

There's still hope. Refurbishment will bring a dilapidated house into prominence. Drowning is also a dream a bad one but still a dream! A 'new' house will help discard the 'drowning' dream. Nicely Yvonne!

I love the flow of the line ..."if dreams are to be minded'. Sometimes our dreams just don't measure up ... and neither does reality, come to think of it ...

I love the places dreams take us. And I love how the Great Lakes are at the back of your consciousness.

"Chimerical" might be the right word. Very well done...

Thanks so much everyone. I do hope I never drown, although I suppose there are much worse ways to go. Thanks, Nino, for noticing. In many ways, they are my muse.

Very clever verse there...and worth thinking about. Dreams...you made them feel very important, and scary when they go.
Really the poem reaches deep, in the way water does within a lake. Will read again as it does need looking at a few times.

This poem is a house of many rooms, Yvonne. So evocative and haunting.

This is not a dream, this is my nightmare ... you described it well!

Yvonne Osborne said...

Managua,
Thank you so much. That's really nice.

Tricia,
Thanks!! I like a poem that does that.

Helen,
Thank you. I know water and drowning are common dreams, like ones of flying which I've never had. I wonder what it all means.

found that particularly interesting. It is often a good thing dreams don't work out as planned. I find the surprises in the road have been the most interesting. Now, nightmares... well I never want those to come true.

Interesting interpretation of the image...

Sue,
Thank you!

Lyn,
Thanks!

Susie,
Thanks so much.

Margaret,
Thanks for your thoughts. Nightmares can be ghastly. Thankfully, we usually can forget them.

Trellis,
Thanks!
