The Campfire People (A Fri. Flash 55)

The buzz of the chainsaw
interrupts her bird watching.
They cut down the woods
so they’d have a meadow.
They build fires at night and
move trees by day,
plopped here and there so prettily.
Buildings she never wanted to see
emerge through the trees.
They invite her to their campfire.
They built a meadow.

The above is 55 words for the G-Man's Friday excercise.  If you write one you should let him know so we can all read it. The sun is shining, the snow is melting off the sunny side of the porch, my basil on the windowsill has germinated, and the puppy is eating my socks and chewing on my electric cords.  Life is full.

TGIF!!

This breaks my heart because I experience this time after time...and the world is altered just a little bit more...

I do love meadows- but not seeing other houses so much! Glad you
have melting going on! we just got
another 14" and I know it will warm and melt- but I 'm SO ready for spring!

...and they call it progress, I suppose. I do so dread the chainsaw's buzz...

Steven,
Thanks!

Talon,
Yes, and there's no going back. Thanks.

Izzy,
I too love meadows that are truly meadows. I think we're all ready for spring. Thanks!

Turtle,
Yeah...progress. Thanks for commenting.

Better go rescue the puppy from the window cords. Looks like the woods are too late, as the meadow has already been built.

It's such a shame when we interfere with nature's beauty. Sadly, there's not many of those wonderful places left untouched.

Alice,
The puppy is gonna drive me nuts! I guess the forest will reclaim the meadow, given 70-80 years unfettered.

Razza,
Not many, that's for sure. Thanks so much!

Interesting, the thought of 'building' a meadow. But the thought of cutting down good, healthy trees makes me a little sad. Nice write Yvonne!

And if it were where I live, someone would come along a few years later and turn the meadow into a shopping center. This is what passes for progress.

Yvonne Osborne said...

Mary,
If someone likes everything manicured, neat and open, why would they move next to a woods, only to cut it down?

Ann,
Yuck. Makes me think of that old Joni Mitchell song: "They paved paradise, put up a parking lot."

Oh but were it only a meadow.

This works on so many levels, for what is constantly happening (for money) that we don't want to see. Great 55.

Yvonne Osborne said...

Mr. Charleston,
True. Thanks a bunch!

Hedgewitch,
Yeah, I guess trees are the least of it. Thanks.
