A pickup truck stops in the middle of the road.
Hounds loosed from the back,
buck their
handlers, heels grounded.
The old man looks
out his window and wonders
what they’re
looking for in his ditch.
He gets his cane
and lumbers to his feet
wishing he could run a dog across the snow-swept field.

This brings so much with brevity...relaying expertly a vivid scene, character and emotion...I really enjoyed your flash 55, Yvonne! :)
Hannah,
Thank you so much.
This is so vivid! Love it!
You paint a story that feels so real, I've stepped right into it, and feel a little guilty for spying on such a moment. I adore it. Lovely work!
Hannah,
Thank you so much.
Mama Zen,
Thank you!!
Sweeper of Dreams,
Wow, that's great. Thank you.
Puts me right in the scene and looking out the window with a lot of question to ask. Perfectly done!
Such nostalgia...
It puts me in mind of all the things I was able to do, but can't now due to illness. They aren't bad thoughts, just nostalgic ones; for I never forget to be grateful for eyes who can watch the dogs, and a mind that remembers yesterday.
Beautifully powerful words.
Oh I like this.. What could he have found in the ditch.. And that sadness of not being able to run any more makes feel loss...
A poignant portrayal of aging and its limitations but the heart's desire nonetheless.
Ah lovely. I fear they are searching for bear! And I am afraid of bear but hate that they send dogs to hunt them down. But this is a lovely vignette--very poignant. k.
Margaret,
Thank you. Glad you felt like you were there.
Magaly,
Yes, even with the limitations of age, there is still much to be thankful for. Thank you!
Bjorn,
Thank you! Seems that for some the sad moments are catching up to the happy ones.
Mary,

Thanks. I suppose one could tell a short story with a series of 55 words!
Jemi,
Thanks.
Why is word verification showing up on my blog when I didn't put it there? Goggle is a runaway freight train.
