Stepping Off The Sidewalk

To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night - Gibran

There are words you can hang

that will tell you how to feel.

Who to love. What to think.

Hang above the entryway

or in the hallway

where I saw my mother walking

toward me in the mirror

like free-flowing water.

My take on Stepping Off The Sidewalk

Not sure if mother's influence stays and guides like clear water, but that's the feeling here. Works for me as a dream, a metaphor, and a reality.

I enjoyed this .. you are right about the sayings and the slogans, the wall plaques ~ the real advice what matters comes from mothers and others who know us, who we trust.

ms lili,
The mother is with me always, more a dream now than reality and thank you for commenting.

Helen,
Those wall plaques are, for lack of a better word, pointless and silly. Oops that's two. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

Like other’s post-it notes. Soon invisible (sometimes remembered) reminders. Enjoyed.

Tony,
Yeah, wish I'd invented post-it notes. Once saw a yacht over in Port Huron on the Black River called "White Out". Remember that stuff? Made someone a bunch of money.
Thanks.

It's amazing all the words that are left. I am in the process of going through my mother's keepsakes (and there are many) it will take years to sift through... but there are lots of memories there
