It takes a lot to know
what’s right
to let others in
when solitude fits this
shoe.
It takes a lot
when night looms
endless
as a stopped clock
not to be afraid.
When the quiet overtakes
me, myself and I,
it takes a lot to face the
facts
to know what’s right
to ask for help,
to pave the way and be brave
to be in your bedtime
prayers.
I don’t want to be brave
I don’t want to be there.
Linked to the poetry garden and the Tuesday Platform. I've never been good at reading on stage, knees get wobbly and the podium shakes. It's easier here.

Your poem shows a very perceptive portrait of human nature.
Pretty good friends.
Enjoyed very much.
It requires so much courage sometimes, this life, to listen to that small/big voice and respond. Well expressed, Yvonne.
I'm still smiling, Yvonne :).
No favorites, I'm sure.
I think "me" sometimes has a first name of 'give', 'hand', 'buy', 'bring', 'feed', or some other name that makes 'me' tend to be selfish.
..
Kerry,
Thank you!
Anthony
Thanks so much.
Hannah,
Thanks. Writing period takes courage, I think.
Jim,
Thanks.
I takes a lot to be vulnerable. You speak for all of us.
A profound and rather sad poem. We would all sometimes prefer NOT to transcend challenges--but what do you do? You describe it all beautifully. Thanks. k .
To understand that solitude has turned to loneliness takes many sleepless nights, love the three friends of those inner monologues,
Susie,
Thank you so much! I appreciate it.
Kay,
You got it. Thank you.
Bjorn,
That was the part I was trying to get across, the internal solitude of me myself and I. Thanks.
As always, your words brim full of poignancy and perception, Yvonne. Thank you too for your comment on my blog. It is greatly appreciated.
Hi Deborah,
Thank you so much. As always, your words perk me up!
I thought I left a comment before, but maybe I forgot to tell you I'm not a robot. But I'm not, and I really like this, Yvonne. I hadn't heard about this anywhere else, so thank you for that.
Hi Mary,
Yeah, don't you just love that robot thing, the silliness we have to put up with to reach one another. Thanks for finding me!
beautiful words!
