She drifted off to sleep, wondering—
would the pictures on the stairs again be rearranged in the night?
The first time it was her great-grandmother’s portrait
moved from top to bottom.
Each night another was moved.
The last morning, the wall was empty.
Her ancestors were piled against the wall at the bottom of the stairs.
Try your hand at a story in 55. Then let the G-Man know.

This has a surreal feel to it. The whys/whos are very interesting...

Thanks for visiting my book blog! That is a wonderful thriller.
Here is my 55, posted on my poetry blog:
curtain of pebbled path
Geez, what with just reading Fireblossom's poem about the wax dummy, broken neck down the stairs -- and now this, I'd be a bit creeped out if it were night! :)
Luckily the sun is shining and it's hours and hours and hours before I have to sleep. :)
xo
Gautami,
Thank you so much!
Jannie,
Thanks for reading and getting creeped out. And it's hours and hours before I sleep....
Ooo, and intriguing little bit of a tale. It's a mystery.
Follow up post with the reason the portraits all ended up at the bottom?
Oh yes, fun, spooky and mysterious. Love those 55's.
My 55 is HERE .
Like this very much.
Oh this is an excellent premise to a long story of those matriarchs and those houses being emptied, and those children all fighting for space, freedom, opportunities and selfishness.
...as if the ghosts were housed in frames and arguing their heiarchy. In the end....an unhung jury :)
TGIG alright!
now this is indeed mysterious..would love this to happen with the dirty laundry - mysteriously washed - piece by piece...smiles - great 55
Sounds like they are moving out or making a strong suggestion.
a well written 55
In my house it would be my son moving them to mess with my mind! :)
I guess you could say that those portraits were very MOVING?
Most Excellent 55 Yvonne.
Thanks for returning to the Friday Funfest!
And have a Kick Ass Week-End...G
Alice,
Thanks! Maybe a follow up post if I figure it out.
Monkey Man,
Thanks, man! I'm coming over.
Tony,
Thank you thank you!
oh, very cool. Such mysterious goings-on. This could be the beginning of a great story, you know...
Patti,
Thanks. I suppose you're right. Have to think about that one!
This was a fabulous 55. And it leaves me wanting more!
Haunting. I love this.
Not sure I want to know where it came from. ;)
Talon,
Thanks for commenting. Glad you liked it!
Suzanne,
Thank you so much. Nor do I....
Ooohh... this had a creepy feel to it.. and I could also catch some sad undertones in it...
A very reflective and thought provoking 55, I would say..
Nice!!
Kavita,
Welcome to my blog! Where did you come from?? Thanks for reading and catching the sad undertones. I can't seem to help it....there're always there.
And to Rosaria and Annie, yes, the hierarchy of the frames fighting for space. An unhung jury? Pretty funny Annie! Thanks.
