Monday Haiku

Feed me, mother said,
mouth open like a baby bird,
bread crumbs on the bed.

Spent shells fall to ground,
Redtail hawk drops from the sky,
Child runs and hides.

Smeared blood, tearful face
The little bird wouldn’t die
Only a sparrow.

I love Haiku. They are so pared down. So elemental. Well done, Yvonne.

Liza,
Thank you so much.

I'm struck by the sadness contained in the first haiku, where it is the mother, not a child, that asks to be fed.

Despair written in devastatingly beautiful bits, especially the last haiku... heartbreaking.

Thanks so much Rommmy and Magaly. We often doubt ourselves, as I'm sure you know.

Each of these is very moving. The first and third especially. Wonderfully done.

Yes, that first one really struck me... a mother begging to be fed

Beautifully poignant. Especially the last one tore at my heart.

Hi Susie,
Thank you so much. I have missed the company of poets.

Thanks. That one sprung from an old memory.

These are all strong, and work separately or together beautifully.
