The sun burns off the fog
as orioles eat store-bought
grape with no mind
as to where it came from
or who grew and picked
the grapes and filled the jar.
Me, sipping coffee from beans we can't grow
Me, sipping coffee from beans we can't grow
but remembering young girls with shy smiles
picking beans under triple canopy jungle.
I open the door to snap photos
as the fog lifts from the headlands
and a bank of clouds pose as a mountain,
white-peaked with angry undertones—
indigo bunting breaking free of the mother cloud.
Red wing blackbird glides in for a landing
confident as a pilot adjusting his flaps.
I never wanted anything more.

Contentment and acceptance creates the heady mood you painted of your world.
Thanks Penelope!
Such a nice scene, love seeing the birds in my mind's eye.
What a calm and peaceful scene. The tone of contentment stood out for me.
I like your progression with the beginning and end with some birds. I can envision your scene revealed by the open door.
Thanks a bunch Colleen.
Thank you!!
My intent! Paying off the open door theme. Thanks Jim!
I enjoyed the way you set this scene, so relaxed, and I love these lines especially, Yvonne:
‘…the fog lifts from the headlands
and a bank of clouds pose as a mountain,
white-peaked with angry undertones—
indigo bunting breaking free of the mother cloud.’
the imagery is so evocative - "a bank of clouds pose as a mountain,"
To never want anything more. Surely that is the essence of happiness?
Love the scene you paint... the thought of where the coffee comes from was really a nice thought
You snatched my breath away, Yvonne ... a gorgeous write.
Thanks Kim! I'm so glad you like it.
Gosh, Helen, thanks!!!
Thank you Brudberg, I really hoped that thought would come through.
I think so, yet bittersweet in some way....not sure. Maybe realizing you wanted more?
Thanks Laura! I loved your post.
Kim, thanks so much!! I liked mixing in that other bird name.
Wonderful. Haven’t been here over the last number of days. Your words just improved the start of this day. Especially liked the “clouds pose as a mountain”.
Hey Anthony! Thanks so much. I meant to say coming from a "painter" your comment means a lot!!
A peerless description of a certain kind of weather moment, Yvonne...
Geez....thanks a bunch!!!
